On May 15, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln enacted a law founding the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In his last address to Congress two and a half years later, Lincoln referred to the USDA as "The People's Department." The department has played a significant role in shaping American lives through initiatives in food, agriculture, economic growth, scientific research, conservation of natural resources, and several other areas, leaving a lasting impact on countless generations.
